Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact packs a larger screen than its predecessor in the same size body, it has tonnes of power, it’s completely waterproof allowing for underwater photography and it has a good camera.
Sony’s Xperia Compact handsets aren’t like your average ‘mini’ branded smartphones. While the vast majority of smaller flagship handsets share the same design as their larger siblings, the small screen isn’t the only thing that helps keep the price down. Instead, most have a reduced specification as well, making customers compromise on performance for the sake of a cheaper, smaller handset. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, however, does the exact opposite by tweaking the design and keeping the high-end specs.

It’s still quite expensive for a ‘mini’ phone, as contracts currently start from around £27.50 per month for 1GB of 4G data, while SIM-free prices haven’t dropped much below £325, leaving it feeling quite pricey for a six month old handset. This is particularly true when last year’s set of full-sized flagship phones now cost roughly the same on contract as retailers make way for this year’s Galaxy S6s and One M9s.
There’s still a lot to like here, though, especially when the upcoming Xperia Z4 looks to be such a minor spec-bump, giving little impetus for existing owners to upgrade. If anything, it should help the Xperia Z3 Compact’s price to fall in the coming months, making it better value than ever.
